The Weekend That Was

I will just recap the weekend.  We went off the plan a few times this weekend.

Saturday we went to Medieval Times.  If you haven't been it is a dinner theater type place. Where they have knights and jousting. It is very choreographed but still fun. The kids had a good time.  But we ate a half a chicken, half a baked potato, garlic bread, a rib (yes, one rib:), tomato soup and a apple danish for dessert...all with our hands. My husband could not resist a big glass of beer. *lol*

We went to church on Sunday for Easter Sunday Service. I, apparently, didn't take any pictures :)

I am the Outreach Ministry Chair at my church and we had our Easter Egg Hunt today! It was really hot but we had a lot of fun! So much candy! How do I know? Because I helped stuff the 1000 eggs. Monday was a wash on the food front, we had Wendy's and pizza and candy, Oh My!

I still practiced the 20 minute rule with my daughter and the pizza and it worked like a charm.I mentioned that we hadn't had pizza in a long time and she said it was because of the program.  It told her that the program doesn't say we CANNOT have any food but we just have to have the "red light" foods in moderation.

We will be back on plan tomorrow.  Not that this was really bad because things happen but we still didn't go too overboard and the whole weekend was not bad, just a few meals. LOL

Check out my best friend's and my blog about questions that we have as we go through motherhood and marriage, www.momsaskwhy.com.  She also started one about her love for O! Magazine at iloveomagazine.wordpress.com.  Stop by and leave her a comment. She is new to the whole blogging thing.  One day we will post on the Oprah show because we want to get on there. LOL

The 20 Minute Rule

One thing my family is working on is the 20 minute rule. You know the one that they (whoever 'they' is) say is the time it takes for your brain to realize that you already have eaten.  Even though, initially, I thought it was silly, I now think that it is true.  I practice it and maybe my brain is a little slow :) Thursday, I had a Smart Ones meatloaf and mashed potatoes for breakfast. Yes, I did because I didn't feel like spending $7 on breakfast at work:) Now, these 'dinners' are not big at all and I don't know how you are supposed to get satisfied off of them.  Anyway, I ate it and still felt hungry but I waited instead of looking for something else. The main reason because spending money would have been defeating the purpose of the dinner and two because eating something else is not conducive to my 'eating healthy ways'.:)

I thought about the 20 minute rule and just drank something.  That is another rule too "maybe you're not hungry but just thirsty" *lol* It worked, like it has been working.  I made it three hours until lunch time.

Maybe that has been my issue all along. Maybe I didn't need the 2nd helping. Maybe I just needed to WAIT.

My daughter asks for 2nds but we are only supposed to give her 2nds of vegetables or salad. In the back of my head, I just want to let her get a little more but then I remember that is what got us to where we are now. I tell her and my son that sometimes we just have to wait a little for our brain to register.  They hate to hear it and always grumble but 8 times out of 10, they don't come back saying they are hungry.

Do you practice the "20 minute rule" or "maybe you are thirsty rule"? If so, does it work for you? If not, give it a try and let me know.
