One Teaspoon Of Salt A Day

I meant to post this last week because I found it interesting. At the parent class, we discussed reading food labels.  She asked what do we and do we not really pay attention to.  I mentioned that I really do not pay much attention to sodium.  We went on to discuss that the recommended intake of sodium is 2400mg. She said that it shouldn't be that high for the kids or anyone else for that matter.  I asked her how much salt is that really and she said 1 teaspoon.  Did you know that? I sure didn't. As much sodium that is in foods we eat and then we add more salt! I know I must go over that almost every day. I have never put a lot of salt on the kids food but I am "spice and flavor" challenged when it comes to cooking and will add some salt if needed.

I am going to look into using other methods to season the food while  cooking.  I just don't know what seasoning provides what flavor.  I guess I have to do research.  I did buy some Mrs. Dash last weekend.  That helped with the cabbage I made. The kids said the cabbage was spicy but they say soda is spicy too. I have never understood that but it makes me laugh every time they would it.

I have two questions. Do you monitor your salt intake? What spices or methods do you use to season your food?
